RAW Works, a special reading program by Ross Valley Players, will present a staged reading of my new comedy, “Just Let Go,” on Sunday, May 18, at 3 p.m.
“Just Let Go” is a fanciful comedy that follows Nessa, a recent widow, on a journey from grief to recovery. Nessa has moved from Los Angeles to a town near Roswell, New Mexico, after the death of her husband. Her obsession with saving New Mexico’s puzzle sunflower from extinction becomes the anchor for her sanity after she is fired from her job and faces eviction. Her mission pits her against a developer’s plans to erect an alien-themed amusement park and throws her in league with her eccentric mother, Dottie, a minister of sorts, and two sisters from Moldavia who have recently emigrated to New Mexico for marriage. The play follows Nessa’s struggles against alienation and her own grief to triumph in her quest to save the puzzle sunflower and rediscover a sense of joy, love, and wonder.
